Gwen Ottinger Ceramics

Gwen Ottinger grew up in Frederick MD and currently works full-time in her pottery studio at home on the eastern side of the Frederick County. She has been working in clay for over 20 years, while for years also teaching elementary and middle school art and raising a family.

Gwen’s work is modern with a bohemian touch, but always functional. Elegant forms are thrown on the wheel, providing the perfect surface for an exploration of the contrast between space and texture.

All of Gwen’s work is microwave and dishwasher safe, but not intended for the oven.

Her Spring and Summer 2017 glaze palette is a mix of white and cool colors: indigo, aqua, spring green and periwinkle. Her work is primarily made on the potter’s wheel, fired, glazed and then fired again to stoneware temperatures. The pieces are made to be used: Gwen feels that creating items of beauty that can be an enriching part of our daily lives is the best part of being a potter.
